Pennsylvania One Book Early Literacy Program

The Pennsylvania One Book initiative is a valuable program that highlights the importance of early literacy development in preschoolers and the significance of reading early and often to children, as well as engaging them in conversation and other activities around books. The program has remained successful in part due to the partnership of collaborating agencies that all support early childhood literacy efforts. Each year a different children’s picture book is chosen by the committee to be highlighted.

The 2023 Pennsylvania One Book title is Mel Fell by Corey R. Tabor.

An innovative and charming tale about a plucky little bird, from the award-winning author-illustrator of Fox the Tiger.

Readers will delight in turning their book sideways and upside down to follow Mel on her journey from downward fall to triumphant flight in this tale of self-confidence and taking a leap of faith.

An especially enjoyable and satisfying read-aloud!

The Pennsylvania One Book program is entering its eighteenth year promoting the value and benefits of reading early and often to preschoolers.

The Oley Library has been given several copies of this book to encourage families to participate in the Pennsylvania One Book program. If you would like a copy of the book and resources to go with it, please stop in the library to pick up your copy, or email director@oleyvalleylibrary.com and we will put one aside for you to pick up at your convenience. Copies are available while supplies last. One copy of the book has been added to our collection, too.
