There’s no better way to celebrate Earth Day than by planting something that will grow for generations – and we’re excited to share that the Eastern White Pine tree saplings from our partnership with Neighborhood Forest are here and ready for pick up!

If you registered to receive a tree, stop by the Oley Valley Community Library during regular hours to claim your little piece of the forest!

The Eastern White Pine is a beautiful native tree known for its tall, graceful shape and soft, featherly needles. While it may look small now, with the right care, this sapling can grow into a majestic tree that provides shade, shelter for wildlife, and clean air for all of us.

Here are a few tips to help your Eastern White Pine thrive:

• Choose the right spot: These trees love full sun and need room to grow – so plant it where it has plenty of space (they can eventually reach heights of 50-80 feet).
• Dig a cozy hole: Make your hole twice as wide as the root ball and just as deep. Gently place the tree in and backfill with soil, patting it down to eliminate air pockets.
• Water regularly: Keep the soil moist, especially during the first couple of years while the tree establishes its roots. A good soak once a week should do, more often during hot or dry spells.
• Mulch matters: Add a layer of mulch around the base to help retain moisture and keep weeds away – but don’t pile it against the trunk.
• Be patient: These trees are slow growers at first but incredibly rewarding over time.
